There is no question of Auguste Rodin’s place in art history, but not many understand the full extent of his innovation, nor the challenges that informed his work and made art his special refuge. On our 1.5-2 hour private tour, you’ll get the chance to learn about his craft in the Hotel Biron, the mansion where Rodin lived and worked and to which he bequeathed his own creations and personal collection.
Our certified guides will give you a detailed look at the man who helped launch modern sculpture, including the struggles and controversies of his complicated life. You’ll learn about his intense interest in the human form with his casts of hands and the compelling “The Walking Man”; you’ll study masterpieces like “The Gates of Hell” and “The Thinker”; and you’ll get familiar with his network of contemporaries, including the French writer Balzac. Once you’re finished with the interior, you’ll explore the beautiful gardens, where more of his sculptures are on display. By the end of the tour, you’ll have an intimate understanding of Rodin, in the very place where he created some of his most celebrated pieces.
